It appears that A Patriotic Day at the Rodeo is a continuation of the Rocking Horse Rodeo series. It focuses on a rodeo event that young Dee and Henry are taking part in. They are attending with their horses Hank and Top. Dee is excited to see all the patriotic reminders at the event. She loves her country!
The horses are decked out in blue, red and white. It may be their hooves painted or the tail bag they have or another ornament on their tack.
A Patriotic Day at the Rodeo by M.D. Ford
As someone who is autistic, Henry finds the noise of the event difficult. Dee is mindful of her friend’s concerns and quickly comes to his rescue with some ear buds. This way they can both enjoy the bright colours of the fireworks at the rodeo. This short story will be an enjoyable read for young horse fans – and one that’ll help them to focus on reading independently.
At the end of the story, the American flag is provided in an illustration and each part of it – the colours and stars – are explained in regard to what they stand for. I found this a lovely addition to the book.
If you’re looking for a rodeo focused series for young horse fans that are starting to read independently, be sure to check out M.D. Ford’s books.
