Video Resumes?

December 25, 2013 by Christine Meunier 1 Comment

A few months ago at work an email was received from a young French woman who is seeking out horse related employment overseas. Attached to the email was a YouTube video that is a form of resumé.

I watched and thought, what a great way to show off your skills in many different areas, in just a few minutes. Indeed, at times a picture says more than a thousand words. Take a look!

For those of you who are a bit tech savvy, have you considered this form of demonstrating your horse skills?

Trackrider Course in Victoria

November 18, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Track riders are people who ride racehorses for their workouts in their training and leading up to a race.  They can be someone who is a qualified jockey who will ride the horse in a race, but are often people who are not qualified to ride in races.  Track riders can be larger than the typical jockey frame and enjoy riding racehorses in this way even if they aren’t able to qualify as a jockey.

Would you Like to Ride Racehorses in Track Work?

Racing Victoria is advertising a track riding course that is to be run through the National Centre for Equine Education.  If you have a passion for riding horses at speed, perhaps this form of qualification that can lead to employment is worth looking into!

Photography Workshop and Trail Ride

November 14, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

A friend shared an event from the Wangaratta Information Centre Facebook page which has two words that may capture your attention: horseback and photography!

From the site:

Horseback Photography Workshop
Ewen Bell is an award winning travel photography specialist. He loves animals, especially slow moving ones that don’t run away from the camera.

These are wonderful experiences designed to help you build skills and knowledge very quickly. They’re also a lot of fun an open to any skill level both photography and horse riding!

The focal point of the trip will be the horses, the environment and the bush cooking. The horse riding is a major part of the journey; to get us from location to location and into areas where only accessible by foot.

Where Could Your Photography Skills take you?

For those interested, visit the Hidden Trails website.  Available locations are the King Valley, Howqua River and the Victorian High Country.  Cost is $350 per day, which includes:

  • horse riding
  • photography workshop
  • camp accommodation
  • all meals

If you have an interest in pursuing your photography skills with a horse focus, this may be for you.  Who knows, as well as learning a lot, you may pick up some potential clients!

Mixing Horses, Travel and Vacations

October 22, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Where is Your Ideal Horse Holiday?

Author Natalie Keller Reinert knows a thing or two about horses.  In fact, she runs Equestrian Vacations for those who would like the ideal holiday with horses planned for them.

What a great idea!  I believe what could make this work so well is Natalie’s background in:

  • different disciplines of horses and riding – eventing, hunter/jumpers, racing
  • equestrian tourism
  • the horse industry

How wonderful to be able to use your knowledge, skills and contacts to design a custom made horse related holiday for other equestrian enthusiasts?

From Natalie’s site, it states:

“I create custom packages for the horseman in you. Experience the Bluegrass during Kentucky Derby week, with stable tours of some of the most famous Thoroughbred farms in the world. Journey to Italy and root on your favorite contrada as you take in the spectacle of the Palio. Visit the Spanish Riding School in Vienna and receive a private tour of the stables.”

If I am in a position to be chasing up my dream horse vacation in the future, who better to ask then someone to organises trips for a living? 🙂

“We gaze upon their quiet beauty, their natural elegance, and we are captivated. They see us softly, in gentle light… rewarding human companionship with strength, grace and intelligence. As they run through arenas and open fields, past mountains and seas, moving like the wind toward heaven, we travel with them, if only in our hearts.” – Author unknown

The Interscholastic Equestrian Association

September 18, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

I was reading through the bio of an independent author on Goodreads who has recently released a novel and it said that she worked as part of the Interscholastic Equestrian Association.  This is an initiative that works to educate middle school and secondary level children on the benefits of equestrian competition.

I think this is a great way to encourage students who have a passion for riding horses and who are considering it as a future goal.  Their dream may be to represent their school, state or even country in horse riding and I feel that encouraging equine education in schools is a great way to go about it.

If you’re passionate about horse riding and are of school age, this program may be worth looking into.  Likewise, for careers teachers or encouraging parents, it may be worth finding out about to consider if it could be implemented in your school.

“A horse is an animal not a machine and is only as good as it’s rider.” – Author unknown
