3 Horse Jobs on Seek in Australia

January 28, 2016 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Hi everyone!  A search for the term ‘horse’ on Seek today returned three jobs of potential interest:

  1. Administration Manager for Riding for the Disabled in Alice Springs (Full time).
  2. Marketing Manager for Mooney Valley Racing in Victoria (Brand and Digital).
  3. Training and Recruitment Manager for Mooney Valley Racing in Victoria.

These three management level positions are great examples of horse related jobs that don’t necessarily involve hands on work with horses.  If you’re seeking that new challenge for this year and have the skills/passion for any of these areas, take a look!

Sable Island Horse Project

January 8, 2016 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

A friend recently suggested I might like to check out the Sable Island Horse Project on Facebook.  She was right!

I have previously written about equine preservation in Mongolia.  The idea of travelling here and taking part fascinates me!  A study is currently being carried out on the feral horses of Sable Island.  As it says on their website:

Sable Island is a 49 km-long, crescent-shaped sand bar located 160 km off the east coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. Renowned for its windswept and grass-covered dunes, wild horses, and shipwrecks, Sable Island is as unique in character as it is in biological diversity.

The study is on the ecology of the island and these feral horses in particular.  If you have an interest in this area and perhaps are looking for a Ph. D. project, check out the details.

Horse Welfare at the Brooke

November 16, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Whilst reading Whispering Back, I was pleased to find reference to the Brooke, an equine organisation that focuses on:

We are an international animal welfare organisation dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules in some of the world’s poorest communities. We provide treatment, training and programmes around animal health and wellbeing, operating across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

If your passion is for horse welfare, particularly in third world countries, I encourage you to check out this organisation and the incredible work they do.  Perhaps you could even pursue the possibility of working with them or partnering financially?

Perhaps you may like to consider their varying volunteer opportunities.
