Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships

July 17, 2012 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

A workmate informed me today of Darley’s latest program in the Thoroughbred industry. So if you’ve heard of Darley, you’ve probably been made aware of their Darley Flying Start program. Starting in July of 2012, Sheikh Mohammed has set up another education program that is set to benefit Thoroughbred enthusiasts from China.

This internship lasts for 12 months and runs from July of one year until June the following. Why should this be such an appealing opportunity?

  • The 12 month program is fully funded
  • Successful applicants can be based in Britain, Ireland, France, Australia, the USA or Japan
  • Further travel to Dubai will be included for students to gain further industry experience
  • English lessons will be provided as well as access to learning about equine husbandry, agriculture, marketing, stallion nominations and much more
  • All travel and accommodation expenses as well as a monthly living allowance will be provided

Applications have already closed for this year and 12 lucky interns will find themselves on an incredible journey over the next twelve months.

“Grab life by the reins.”

Got an Equine Blog?

July 1, 2012 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

So it came as a shock to me today to realise that I’ve lost all of my links that used to be down the side of my previous design for this blog! In the move to a new address and theme, they’re gone! One that you may be interested in checking out is drontal medicines from Vet Medic. I’ve found an older version of the blog with links but thought I’d put it out there for reader’s of this blog to leave a comment with their blog address so that I can create a new equine related list of links! 🙂

Who doesn’t want to partake in free advertising?? 😉

Rendaivu, Free Online Horse Keeping Software

June 23, 2012 by Christine Meunier

So a workmate showed me Rendaivu, an online record system for horse health/care.  Now this would be suiting for the individual with their own horse(s), but even moreso for one running an equine business.  And the best bit?  It’s free!

On this system, you can record your horse’s details, put up a photo, farriery dates (and you’ll get an email reminder of when your horse is next due), worming, vaccinations, etc.

For those offering agistment or livery services – such as on a stud, at a riding school or agistment property – this online system can be highly beneficial by providing all your horse/client’s horse details in one spot.  Property owners can keep track of a horse’s condition by taking a photo of each horse on arrival and comparing this with the horse’s ongoing condition.

Rendaivu – Horse Management Software

There are also sections where you can keep up to date on expenses, finances, show results.  And a very important facility available for this horse and stable management software is that it also offers the opportunity to back files up!

So for those eager to play with a new horse related program or those who could genuinely make use of such a system, check out Rendaivu.  After all, it’s only going to cost you your time (and it could save you quite a bit, too!)

“Love means attention, which means looking after the things we love. We call this stable management.” – George H. Morris, The American Jumping Style

Equine B&B

June 20, 2012 by Christine Meunier 1 Comment

So I’ve been in Rodrigues with my hubby, visiting his family. We spent our wedding night in a bed and breakfast in the Dandenongs and once in Rodrigues, were blessed to stay a few nights at La Cabane, overlooking the sea with gorgeous sunset views.

My man and I are hoping to secure some land in the next couple of years to set up an agistment property. Thinking of B&Bs, I was daydreaming about the idea of an equine enthusiast’s ideal getaway. Why not somewhere you can:

  • board your horse (or use schooled horses on the property)
  • stay in a self contained cottage with copious horse books, magazines and DVDs
  • ride out on a trail
  • make use of an arena
  • have a riding lesson or two

Heaven, I think!

Defining the Mission Clearly

May 30, 2012 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

My beautiful man and I went along to church with my parents this Sunday just past and I must say, the message was great – and timely! (As often seems to be the case ;))

The pastor was talking about being a ‘change your world’ leader. A lot of the principles he discussed being necessary to make a difference in the world, I believe applies to anyone who has a big dream in life.

Mine? To run an agistment property and offer those on it and others wanting to learn about horses the opportunity to discover the joy that is living and learning horses and the avenues and careers in which you can further explore the wonderful world of horses.

One point that he made which I loved was “to make a difference in this world, you don’t have to be the best. You just have to care the most.”

So true! Whatever it is that you’re passionate about; you’re going to get places because of your enthusiasm rather than your perfection. There were three main points about the leader that changes the world. These were:
– Define the goal clearly (as shown in Nehemiah 2:4-5)
– Make plans carefully (as shown in Nehemiah 2:6-8)
– Inspire people passionately (as shown in Nehemiah 2:17-18)

The one other point that really caught my attention I’ve heard before but had forgotten: if your dream is big enough to achieve without God, you’re not dreaming big enough!

So! What’s your dream? 🙂

“Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles to watch you burn.” – John Wesley
