Horse Business Coaches

July 26, 2017 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Recently I have been reading Take the Reins, a book by Shari Jaeger. It focuses on mindsets and skills that can be utilised to be a successful leader. The focus is specifically on mindsets for business leaders – how they can lead a team, close a sale and increase profits. The horse focus comes into practice by the way she leads individual and team workshops.  And this got me thinking about horse business coaches.

How does it work with Shari?  Often a person – or team of people – is asked to achieve a task with a horse moving free in an arena. They need to cause the horse to carry out a particular task without touching it.

Horse Business Coaches - would they Benefit you?
Horse Business Coaches – would they Benefit you?

As people carry out these workshops, they learn to better communicate with each other and to move with intention. This got me to thinking about horses businesses in general and how they could all benefit from coaching. What if there was one place you could go to as a horse business owner, to gain coaching in a number of areas? It could be a local organisation you could engage the use of to gain horse business coaches in varying areas.

These areas could depend on the expertise of the coach in question. It could be motivation, brain storming ideas, management of staff, increasing profits, managing finances or even simple accountability to follow through on planned tasks.

The people made available could provide sessions in person, via Skype, over the phone or even through email communication. The difference with those on offer to horse businesses is that they would know the equine industry and horse people. Perhaps they’ve worked in racing and marketing, or they own racehorses and have a financial qualification. Maybe they have performance horses or ride for pleasure.

Whatever it is, they have a skill they can coach in and a working knowledge of what horse people want. In this way, they will be better equipped to understand and aid horse businesses. What do you think?

Integration of Horse Sites

July 21, 2017 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

I was recently talking with my sister in law about some tools she uses for her business. The focus was on how wonderful it is for certain tools to be integrated. An example? On WordPress, there is integration to be able to automatically share posts as soon as they are published. Here on Equus Education, as soon as a post is published, it shares across Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, and Twitter. And why? Because I am able to integrate my WordPress account with these particular websites.  It definitely saves time! So why not integration of horse sites?

Would you Benefit from Integration of Horse Sites?
Would you Benefit from Integration of Horse Sites?

Some other examples of integration include being able to setup Paypal on your site to receive payments. Or for authors, Instafreebie is linked in with Mailchimp so people can automatically opt-in to your mailing list when they choose to receive a free copy of your book electronically.

Now this is a very broad concept for me to suggest at this stage. As someone who doesn’t currently run a hands on horse business, I cannot specifically identify horse tools/websites that I find useful and would love to have working in cooperation with each other!

Integration of Horse Sites

One such site I can think of is Rendaivu. What if the information you entered here about your horses and their health could also be put into other databases you consistently use for your business?

It could be sites for registering horses, entering competitions and proving vaccination and worming details.  Maybe even their health details could be accessed by veterinarians and farriers. Just a general idea.

But if there was someone out there who had the technological know-how – and the cooperation from various horse applications and websites, this could be possible. In fact, the person who is able to establish an integration of horse sites may be able to charge a fee to businesses because you have created a tool that makes their life easier. What do you think?

The Horse Drawn Tram

July 5, 2017 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

I was recently chatting with a friend who is off on a holiday. They’ll be in the area of the horse drawn tram! It seems that in Victor Harbor, South Australia, there is a tram that is pulled by a draught horse, across a bridge to a particular nature reserve. In fact, this is the main way to get there!

The Horse Drawn Tram in Victor Harbor

What a unique idea! I am originally from South Australia and hadn’t realised this was about, although we often frequented Victor Harbor. My mother informs me it’s been around for ages and she remembers it as a girl. My father indicated for awhile it was pulled by a tractor to take people across. Perhaps this was why I didn’t pay attention to it as a young girl? I am sure the horse would have gained my interest!

The Horse Drawn Tram

You can travel along the causeway from seaside Victor Harbor over to Granite Island in the only horse-drawn tramway in Australia. I love this! You can check out the website for prices. I was surprised to note that you can even pay for an annual membership, which gives you unlimited free rides! As it says on their website:

“The tram travels across the 630 metre causeway throughout the day taking passengers to picturesque Granite Island. Approximately 100,000 visitors annually enjoy this experience. It has carried more than 2 million passengers since 1986.
Commencing in 1894 by the South Australian Railways, the service attracts visitors from all parts of the globe. Whether it is the experience of travelling on heritage transport, travelling across the sea, going to the Island and experiencing the nature walks, the opportunity of seeing marine life in their environment or the joy of meeting one of our Clydesdales, the tram caters for all.”

You can find out all about the history of the tramway on their site, too!  And be sure to check out membership details 🙂

Alpha Horse Leadership Training for Humans

June 23, 2017 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Recently I was able to download a copy of the non-fiction horse book Take the Reins! 7 Secrets to Inspired Leadership by Shari Jaeger. Any horse book that is able to provide principles to help you be a better person is worth the read in my opinion!  As Shari explores the concepts in her book, she makes reference to Alpha Horse Leadership Training for Humans.

I was amazed to read in the book that she left a well respected, high paying position to jump in the deep end and start her own business. It has resulted in what is now described as a ‘world-class program to empower your leadership and intuition’.

Knowing that she left a successful position to pursue a growing idea that involved using horses to help people, I did a search online for Shari’s leadership business. I love that she focuses on business strategy but also makes use of horses to guide individuals.

Alpha Horse Leadership Training for Humans ™

Shari utilises horses in her equine assisted coaching program to help individuals discover their most effective leadership style and then act on this.  They use the horses to demonstrate their management capabilities, which they can then go and use in the workplace. In her book, Shari provides examples of events that have occurred in these horse coaching sessions. The results for individuals has helped them to recognise their true approaches to other people. And from here, they then discover what needs adjusting to get the result they desire.

Shari combines business strategy with emotional and also social intelligence to help people achieve the results they desire. As it says on Shari’s business site:

“The workshops use experienced horses for enhanced learning and ground-truthing the exercises. No horse experience is necessary, all activities are conducted unmounted in an indoor arena.”

This course can help the individual.  But it is also able to be utilised by whole teams within a particular business. If you have a passion for working with horses and a background with managing people, then the idea of working at an equine facilitated learning property may appeal to you. Perhaps it’s a position you can aim for in the future of your career?

Rider Bling – Using Amazon to Focus Your Horse Niche

June 21, 2017 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

I can’t remember how it was that I came across Rider Bling. But on first glance, I thought it was a tack / riding apparel store that had a website to promote their own products. Looking at the boutique section of the site, I realise I was wrong!

It seems that the concept of Rider Bling is something I often promote, but haven’t really seen actively in action before! It is an online store with horse products, but what makes it different is who owns the products. This site appears to be specifically set up to benefit from affiliate commissions. The horse related products on display and for sale are all sourced through Amazon. Can you say, Equine Passive Income Stream?

Rider Bling - Hand Picking Amazon Items for Sale

When you visit the boutique area of the site, you’ll be provided with Brooke’s Picks of items. It would be my guess that as sales are made, Brooke makes commissions on these. So she’s not creating the items for sale, but rather guiding people toward horse related products that are already for sale on Amazon.

Rider Bling – Horse Affiliation

The unique thing about this is that she’s found a way to make money from someone else’s product – with presumably little input from herself! Instead, she’s gone through the Amazon catalogue and picked out what she likes. Then from here, she’s providing images and prices (which are given through Amazon Affiliates in a nifty little code). People click to buy the product she’s recommended and voila she receives a commission.

If you have a passion for particular horse products and you know they’re available for sale on Amazon, then this idea could appeal to you. What could make the website more appealing to visitors is an information area. You could provide horse articles that highlight the benefits of a particular product…  And then you give readers the opportunity to buy said product. This would require more time from you initially to write the articles.  However, it could also provide more benefit to people who visit your site. Food for thought.
