Equine Finance Partners

August 31, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

I’ve recently been researching something for a client and came across a finance company that was consistently referencing horse businesses. This got me thinking about things that we need finance for in the horse industry.

Can you think of any?

  • a stallion
  • a share in a racehorse
  • a float
  • land
  • a truck

There are definitely some items that are horse related that can cost a lot and perhaps need finance.  So in this niche area, I got to thinking: what if there was a business out there that provided finance – specifically for the equine industry, or equine related products?

Lending money is risky business and it’s important to know that you’re going to get that money back (plus interest).  Having a particular focus in the equine industry could help financiers to determine if indeed what is intended to be bought with the loaned money, is a risk or a worthwhile investment that can be paid back in full.

Perhaps you have an interest in money and investing, and would consider it worth your while financing others’ interests in the horse industry – at a return rate, of course.

Andromeda – Sustainable Rubber for the Horse Industry

May 1, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

I’ve recently connected with someone who represents Andromeda – Used Rubber Belt Specialists.

Rubber surfacing is particularly safe for horses.

For me, a company that is able to reuse a product and provide something that is sustainable (and for the equine industry!) gets a big thumbs up!

These guys don’t specifically cater to just the horse industry, but they definitely do make products that can be of benefit to horse owners:

  • rubber fencing
  • matting for walkways such as within a stable or washbay
  • stalls or dividers
  • feeders

They’re Australian based and if you have a need for a horse friendly surface, why not Equine Products at Andromeda?

A Different Kind of Rug

January 9, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Horses often need protection from the elements and humans may rug to keep their horse warm, dry, clean or to protect a coat from the harsh sun.  I haven’t known of rugs that are fireproof and have high visibility elements before, though!  Check out this niche idea over at Hazard County.

Horse Carriage Business Possibilities

July 13, 2014 by Christine Meunier 3 Comments

So as a little girl, I dreamed of arriving at my own wedding in a horse drawn carriage.  At some point, I must have shared this dream with my parents, because they remembered!

In 2012 I married a wonderful man and was under the impression that I was getting driven to the church in an aunt and uncle’s car – they’d even cleaned it up and organised the traditional wedding ribbon!  You can imagine my surprise when I stepped out of my parents’ front door and heard ‘clip clop, clip clop’!

A Percheron in Harness in France.

I got my dream of being taken to the church in a horse drawn carriage and loved it.

For those who have a passion for carriage work with horses, there are a few business opportunities to consider.  These include (but are not limited to):

  • Carriage rides to weddings
  • Touristic rides around historical towns or in the city
  • Horse drawn hearses for funerals

One such business in the United Kingdom provides horse drawn carriages for the first and last services on the above list.  You can check them out at Clayton Carriage Masters.

Equine Roadside Assistance

July 3, 2014 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Who Would you Call if you Broke Down Whilst Towing a Horse?

I always thought there should be someone you could call if you broke down on the side of the road and had horses on board.  Well it seems, in the United Kingdom, there is!

Equine Rescue Services provide support to those travelling with horses:

At ERS, our mission is to provide specialist horsebox breakdown cover of the highest standard to all members of the equine community. Whether you drive a horsebox or tow a horse trailer, we provide the best breakdown cover in the industry.

Our core responsibility is to ensure the welfare of you and your horses in a breakdown emergency, 24 hours a day. Our experience spans over a decade of successful roadside rescues. We get hundreds of breakdowns back on the road quickly each year, with the expertise of our nationwide support networks…

Now in my mind, if you combined this service with a working knowledge of large animal rescue, you’d have a lot to offer horse lovers and be able to build up a successful business over time!

“We gaze upon their quiet beauty, their natural elegance, and we are captivated. They see us softly, in gentle light… rewarding human companionship with strength, grace and intelligence. As they run through arenas and open fields, past mountains and seas, moving like the wind toward heaven, we travel with them, if only in our hearts.” – Author unknown
