How much of your day/week is related to horses?
Almost all of the working day and much of the night and weekends – such are the joys of Facebook!

What is it exactly that you do?
I am Research and Marketing Director for EquiFeast. Combining customer contact and technical responsibilities has enabled me to develop products that really help solve rider problems. As our team grows I encourage the same focus on horse and rider needs.

But our strength also lies in our willingness to try novel things. Chelated calcium is proving to improve functions all over the horse and it is very exhilarating to see such a novel approach make our customers smile.

Supplements from EquiFeast

Favorite horse memory?
Winning an unaffiliated prelim dressage test at a local dressage centre on Paddy the horse that got us started down the chelated calcium route. I am the worlds worst rider but 69.55 was a great score from a horse that previously used to enter at A and canter to B and then C before thinking about jumping the judge’s car.

Watching other riders I think it has to be watching Laura Bechtolsheimer (now Tomlinson) winning Gold and Bronze at London 2012 using our chelated calcium supplement!!!

Future goals?
Getting a better understanding of what chelated calcium can do and taking the technology beyond improving behaviour and performance and making progress with health and welfare issues. Top targets for 2016 are mobility (Kissing Spine and less extreme conditions) and Cushings (big trial with the Royal Agricultural University about to start).

Best thing about your job?
Definitely getting calls from customers saying we have saved their wild and uncontrollable horse from the doggers.

Equus Education Blog Hop: Equine Goals

December 12, 2015 by Christine Meunier 2 Comments

Now we have covered this before, but I want to touch on it again for the New Year. What horse related goals do you have in mind for 2016?

I am excited about my goal of generating a set figure of $1000/month via passive income means, and horse focused! I aim to achieve this through a few different avenues, all online. To achieve this, I need to:

  • Create at least 52 products on TeachersPayTeachers by November 2016
  • Continue to generate content for this blog and promote posts
  • Write more horse novels and make these available on Amazon

I have set myself specific goals to achieve by November 2016, having given myself a 12 month period to achieve these. This way I feel that each week I can be doing something proactive towards my larger goal.

You may have one goal, you may have many. Feel free to join in this blog hop and post on your blog what your equine related goal/s are for the New Year. And don’t forget, you can get a head start on them now, you don’t have to wait for 2016 to arrive!

Once you’ve written the post, link it back to this one and leave a comment below!

Writing down your goal/s is the first step to making them a reality. Good luck!

Participants:

  1. Horse Country
  2. Free Rein Series

Bartering in a Horse World

November 28, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

There’s a fundraising campaign going on for the radio station I listen to, Visionfm and after their focus on raising funds via donations, I heard an advert indicating that if listeners made use of Bartercard, and they had built up points, then they could donate to Vision in this way. Great idea!

It got me thinking again about how this could be utilised in the Equine Industry. Some of you may be familiar with the free resource, the Equestrian Exchange on Facebook. If not, check it out!

The idea is that you offer a product or service in exchange for another product or service that will benefit you or your horse business. For example, an equine author offers a copy of their book in exchange for a review.

What Would you Barter from your Horse Business for hay for your Horses?

As a business owner of a horse feed store, you may offer a load of hay to the stud down the road in exchange for the chance to breed your mare to one of their stallions. My previous bosses at two different jobs (training and breeding) bartered by the breeder sending stock to the trainer for racing and the trainer sending some broodmares to the stud for his stallions. They helped each other out.

What if there was a setup like Bartercard that catered specifically to the horse world? Perhaps you love the idea of setting up a business and this appeals to you. It would require:

  • approaching horse businesses about taking part
  • setting up a points system equivalent to a money system
  • developing a way to promote businesses involved
  • determining how you would make money from the system as the creator

I’m sure that there’s more that would need working out, but it’s some fodder for thought.

“To barter: exchange (goods or services) for other goods or services without using money.”
