December 21, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Hi everyone!  I love to be able to share free horse related resources online and this one could improve your education in 2016!  If you’re interested, take a look at this link for CAFRE – http://www.cafre.ac.uk/equine-short-courses/

There are two courses on offer, one that is free and online:

Online Equine Behaviour & welfare
Equine Behaviour and Welfare is the latest topic to be covered in the CAFRE suite of online equine courses. This course will cover natural equine behaviour, development of abnormal behaviours and how management and training practices affect behaviour and impact on horse welfare. This is a free course and is aimed at participants wanting to gain a better understanding of equine behaviour and how it impacts on welfare of the horse. The course will run over four weeks, from 13th January until 10th February. Participants can study at their own pace, and can access the lectures at any time from the comfort of their own home. Course registration closes Wednesday 6th January 2016.

Certificate in the Principles of Horse Care
The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horse Care is an accredited course which will run over 8 weeks at Greenmount Campus, Antrim. Dressage Terms Defined by Eleanor Russell and Sandra Pearson-Adams

This short non fictional book is made up of an alphabetical list of dressage terms that you may come across in a test or in feedback from a test. Set out over around 80 pages, Eleanor and Sandra define in straight forwards terms and with the help of diagrams, what particular terms mean.

From above the bit to yield, these terms are explored in a way to aid understanding to the rider. If you have a passion for dressage – or even just a desire to expand your horse related vocabulary! – then this short book is a great way to add to your knowledge and understanding.

Dressage Terms Defined is a succinct and relevant read that would be worth having in your equine library. It would surely become a valuable reference point for the horse rider.

Horse Welfare at the Brooke

November 16, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Whilst reading Whispering Back, I was pleased to find reference to the Brooke, an equine organisation that focuses on:

We are an international animal welfare organisation dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules in some of the world’s poorest communities. We provide treatment, training and programmes around animal health and wellbeing, operating across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

If your passion is for horse welfare, particularly in third world countries, I encourage you to check out this organisation and the incredible work they do.  Perhaps you could even pursue the possibility of working with them or partnering financially?

Perhaps you may like to consider their varying volunteer opportunities.
