March 26, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

It’s always great to know about finance/funding opportunities when you’re studying.  The applications for this one for this year need to be completed by March 31st, but for future records, are you aware of Rural Finance?

Description:

The Rural Finance Ian Morton Memorial Scholarship offers payments of up to $6,000 per annum to one recipient for a maximum two-year period while completing postgraduate studies.
Eligibility Criteria

Students must:

  • Demonstrate Victorian residency over a three-year period prior to the application date
  • Be a first-year postgraduate student (Masters or above) studying a research project or coursework
  • Be under 45 years of age as at 1 January 2015
  • Be studying at a Victorian institution
  • Demonstrate a career commitment that will benefit agriculture.

Although it’ll be awhile before I’m setting up my dream property, it doesn’t hurt to know of finances I can apply for!  What about you, do you have study goals?

The Cornell Collar

March 13, 2015 by Christine Meunier 1 Comment

The Cornell Collar

I’m doing a short course with CAFRE currently and it’s focused on equine health, in particular the respiratory system. There was reference to the Cornell Collar in their first PowerPoint, so I thought I’d look into it.

The Cornell Collar is a collar that is designed to be used on horses that have issues with soft palate displacement. I love learning about new inventions in the equine industry.

In fact, I recently wrote a post on LinkedIn titled Leading or Managing in the Equine Industry and it seems to me that there is a lot of room in our great industry for leaders who create equine related products and tools.

What idea are you sitting on? Get active on it!

Managing Equine Health Free Online Course

February 14, 2015 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Hi everyone!  A recent email from CAFRE I feel is worth sharing:

Learn how to keep your horse healthy with a new online course

Managing Equine Health is the next topic to be covered in the suite of online CAFRE courses for horse owners. This course will follow on from the first online Equine Health workshop and look at further conditions which horse owners and managers have to deal with. The course will cover some of the internal systems of the horse to give a greater understanding of the conditions which affect them. Parasites which affect horses and a parasite management system will also be discussed in the course. Learners can access the lectures at any time during their scheduled week.  Upon completion of all parts of the course participants will gain a certificate of completion from CAFRE.

The course will be live from Wednesday 4th March and run over three weeks, with a new lecture each week. The course is free of charge and participants must enrol online by 26th February 2015 by following this link http://www.cafre.ac.uk/industry-support/industry-training/ or call 028 9442 6880 for further information.

I’ve done 3 courses with CAFRE so far and find them to be really well run, informative and a great refresher on previously known knowledge as well as a great update on new knowledge!  And of course, I love that I get a certificate at the end 😉

“The Horse’s Prayer – I’m only a horse, dear Master, but my heart is warm and true,
And I’m ready to work my hardest, for the pleasure of pleasing you. Good corn, and hay, and water, are all that I wish to ask. And a warm dry bed to rest on, when I’ve finished my daily task. Don’t strike me in needless anger if I’m slow to understand,
But encourage my drooping spirits with a gentle voice and hand. Finally, O my master! When my health and strength are gone – When I’m getting old and feeble, and my long life’s work is done – Don’t sell me to cruel owners, to be slaved to my latest breath,
But grant me the untold blessing of a quick and painless death;
That, as you have always found me a patient and loyal friend,
The years of my faithful service may be crowned by a peaceful end. I plead in the name of the Savoir, Who cares when the sparrows fall. Who was born in a lowly stable, and knows, and loves us all!” – Author unknown

EMM Therapy Course

January 30, 2015 by Christine Meunier 1 Comment

Well I’ve just discovered udemy and decided to see if they had any horse courses.  There is one at this point – EMM – Horse Muscle Care.

By the looks of it, it’s a short course with a lot of explanatory videos to help educate and equip you the horse owner to be able to provide muscle care to your horses.  Why not check it out?  Who knows, if you find that you’re able to carry it out on your horses, perhaps it could become a business idea on others’ horses?
