Free Farm Planning Electronic Resource

March 3, 2014 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

What Would Your Ideal Horse Property Consist of?

At uni this semester I am undertaking an elective Property Planning and Development.  I look forward to the day when I can apply the principles to my husbands and my property, but until then, am content focusing on the agistment facility where I keep my gelding.

We are required to map out what is available on the property in the form of facilities and paddock subdivision and then create another overlay where we put in proposed changes/additions with a focus on sustainability.

This is possible to do manually with a printed out aerial map of the property, or electronically.

If choosing to do so electronically, we’ve been pointed towards a program that you can gain for the cost of postage (otherwise it’s free) from eAgribusiness.  If you’re establishing your own setup, the cost of postage is well worth investing in (and probably can be claimed on tax ;)).

However mighty its force
Had never achieved its lordly plan
Without the aid of a horse.” – Ella Wilcox

Educational Tools Sale at TeachersPayTeachers

February 24, 2014 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Last year I signed up to TeachersPayTeachers as a way to create and sell horse related activities and fact sheets for other teachers.

Christine Meunier’s Points of the Horse Activity

It seems to be a great online resource for educators but also for people wanting to find an educational tool to pass on to their children or use for themselves.

Of course, horses are a focused area and TPT has resources for pre-school, primary and secondary school levels as well as further education.

If interested in horse related educational resources, why not take a look at my store?  Some of the products are free to download so that you can get a feel for what kind of resources I make:

  • Christine’s Store at TeachersPayTeachers
  • Consider also my latest activities that have been added – Points of the Saddle and Bridle Activity and Gaits of the Horse Activity

At the end of the month (February 27th and 28th) TeachersPayTeachers is promoting a sale of many of the products advertised on their site.  It may be a great opportunity for educators to pick up cheap resources for their classes.  Check it out!

Large Animal Rescue Workshop in Wodonga

January 31, 2014 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

5th or 6th of April this year, there are two one day workshops focused on Large Animal Rescue.  I received an email last week from uni about this and thought I’d pass on the details.

On the flyer it states what is covered:

  • LEARN what you should and should not do in an emergency
  • PREVENT the horse from being killed or severely injured by unsafe rescue techniques
  • AVOID becoming a statistic

For those who book before February 21st, the fee is $120, otherwise it’s $150.  This fee includes a copy of “Equine Emergency Rescue”, which is listed as valued at $35.  It’s run in Wodonga, which is North East Victoria, Australia.

For more information, or to book a place, contact:
Kelly Bick, E: kbee@westnet.com.au, P: 02 6071 0210 A/H

Equine Assisted Training Short Course

January 23, 2014 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

I’ve posted a bit about Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) on Equus-Blog, so am rapt to have found a business in Texas (I think!) that offers equine certification in this area.

If you have an interest in EAL, are near to the vicinity where this training is offered and want to undertake a short course, why not check out Equine Assisted Training at Innovative Horizons.  Over the 10 days there are different program topics; one includes:

  • The Equine Assisted Learning Model of Training
  • Overview of the Equine Assisted Learning Model of Training
  • Safety in EAL
  • Benefits of Equine Assisted Learning
  • Comparison of Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) vs. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
  • EAL vs. EAP
  • Comparison of the Roles and Skills of the Trainer & Therapist
  • Why Horses Can Be Used in Human Training
  • Comparison of Human and Equine Posturing and Spatial Relationships
  • Equine Social Structure
  • Equine Psychology
  • The Herd Mentality
  • Understanding Equine Body Language
  • Characteristics of the Equine Social Structure
  • How Human Body Language Can Effect the Equine
  • Ten Natural Equine Survival Traits
  • Verbal Equine Communication
  • EAL Exercises and Outcomes
  • Using the Horse in Experiential Training
  • EAL Facilitation Techniques

Of course, more details are provided on the above link!  You may also be interested in the 2014 schedule.

Equine Psychotherapy

January 15, 2014 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

So whilst looking up a website for Barbara Dimmick, author of In the Presence of Horses, I stumbled across a website named the same.  This one was not for the novel though!

I’ve explored the option of equine assisted learning on Equus-Blog before.  It seems to me to be a rapidly growing area of therapy for individuals, with the use of equines being a major theme.  In fact, it now seems that many are able to combine their pyschology qualifications or even therapy qualifications with their passion for and love of horses, and create a remarkable pair that helps people to progress and improve.

If you have an interest in helping people to develop and improve their mental health with the use of horses, I encourage you to take a look at In the Presence of Horses, which is a form of Equine Psychotherapy.
