Mesmerized by a Horse Whisperer by Carol Colyer

April 27, 2020 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Mesmerized by a Horse Whisperer is another book I recently downloaded on Kindle to read and review. It was free from a recent horse search on Amazon. It took a little while for me to realise but the horse person in this story was the female protagonist. I had assumed it would be the male so was pleasantly surprised to find otherwise!

Young Cate (Catori) is an Indian woman who was adopted by an American family at the age of eight. This story is a historical romance. Fast forward fifteen years and the young woman now known by locals as Cate finds herself as accepted as she can hope for in the small, growing town of Fairbrush.

The arrival of her adopted sister’s cousin Riley Shaw suddenly turns everything on its head. Cate can admit that Riley is attractive and has a captivating personality. But as the young man’s wariness of the Indian woman turns to curiosity, she eagerly accepts the challenge to teach him to ride horses and care for them.

Riley cannot deny his attraction to the clever horse whisperer.  He is pleased in time to find it is returned but as the two work together to set up the business Riley came to Fairbrush to start, Cate can’t help but question if her happiness will last.

As Riley’s wealthy background catches up with him, Cate is dismayed to learn of his father’s racism and control over his son.  Mesmerized by a Horse Whisperer is an entertaining read where horses are regularly featured.  Throw in a focus on Indian tribal culture, women working and the fashion world with a delightful Frenchman and you have an enjoyable read. The romance is lovely and the story ends beautifully.

Love before Midnight by Kathleen Ball

March 23, 2020 by Christine Meunier

I was once loaned a book by Kathleen Ball from a colleague and horse enthusiast.  I enjoyed that book and so was pleased to find another book by this author, for free download on Kindle late last year.  This book was titled Love Before Midnight.

Now I’m always up for a western romance – they are often entertaining and enjoyable.  This book met those expectations also.  Anora Garrity was a character it was easy to gain an interest in.  As she finds herself thrown out of home, the reader is quickly encouraged to like Maverick Cole who takes her in on a freezing, snowy night.

Maverick is grudging at first to help Anora.  This is especially so because her husband tried to steal one of his horses.  But Maverick finds in the short time that Anora stays with him that he develops an unexpected fondness for her.  He’s protective and puts this down to the abusive home that she has left.

Yet in time, he realises it’s more than that.  Even when her husband brings a devastating blow to Maverick’s plan to build up good horse stock with his stallion. Just when Maverick is ready to admit his feelings for the young woman, Anora is gone from his life.

Fast forward a year and readers get to explore with Anora and Maverick.  The two consider if the feelings they once felt are still there.  And if so, whether they should act on them.  Love Before Midnight was a short, enjoyable read with a small focus on horses that was appreciated.

Evidence of Trust by Stacey Joy Netzel

January 14, 2020 by Christine Meunier

I have recently been away on holiday with the family. Whilst my computer time was non existent, my kindle time was not. I was thankful for many free downloads over this time! Evidence of Trust is an entertaining mystery, thriller and romance with some great horse action thrown in.  Brittany is helping out at a friend’s property to help cover things over the busy tourist season.  She spends a lot of her time taking tourists out for rides in the nearby national park.

This property has free access to areas of the park that others would need a permit to visit.  Taking advantage of this, Brittany goes camping by herself to enjoy some quality time outdoors, go hiking and also be with her exceptionally well trained stallion.

It is on her planned relaxing trip that she has a run in with an unwelcome visitor, learns about a gruesome hunter in the park and also finds her plans suddenly turned upside down.  Upon first meeting the ranger that has been brought in to stop the sudden animal hunts and gruesome killings, Brittany is dismayed to find herself physically drawn to a man that pushes all her buttons when it comes to anger and being defensive.

As Brittany continues to work in the local area and take people out for rides in the park, she is frustrated to find that ranger Joel is never far away.  And she always seems to be doing the wrong thing as far as he is concerned.

Evidence of Trust builds nicely and has some genuinely easy to like characters.  The mystery is interesting and the horse side of things is spot on.  This was an enjoyable read with a great romance thrown in.
