Disaster at Roosevelt Ranch by Elise Faber

May 4, 2020 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

I am so thankful that I don’t seem to be anywhere near running out of free horse books to read and review on Kindle! Disaster at Roosevelt Ranch was one such recent download. This horse adult romance was an entertaining read as I found I had some time up my sleeve over a couple of days.

The novel has an engaging start and moves at a fast pace.

Kelly knows her life is about to be turned upside down. Finding out you’re unexpectedly pregnant will do that.  The hard working woman knows she needs to bring it to the attention of her ex, but finds that hard to do.  After all, he’s suddenly no longer around.

But his just as good looking twin is and it looks like he could be staying for awhile. Kelly knows she can’t afford to lose her heart to another Rososevelt man, but Justin’s personality is nothing like his brother’s. And that draws him to Kelly even more.

I loved the first comment in this novel regarding the stables and Kelly.  Her love of horses is soon outlined in the story and eventually the reader learns how much they were her life.  That was before her selfish mother took away the opportunity.

Disaster at Roosevelt Ranch explores how easily an unplanned pregnancy can occur, looks at family ties and overcoming mistakes. For some potentially angst filled topics, it was a light and enjoyable read.  And the romance aspect was nicely wrapped up at the end.

Love before Midnight by Kathleen Ball

March 23, 2020 by Christine Meunier

I was once loaned a book by Kathleen Ball from a colleague and horse enthusiast.  I enjoyed that book and so was pleased to find another book by this author, for free download on Kindle late last year.  This book was titled Love Before Midnight.

Now I’m always up for a western romance – they are often entertaining and enjoyable.  This book met those expectations also.  Anora Garrity was a character it was easy to gain an interest in.  As she finds herself thrown out of home, the reader is quickly encouraged to like Maverick Cole who takes her in on a freezing, snowy night.

Maverick is grudging at first to help Anora.  This is especially so because her husband tried to steal one of his horses.  But Maverick finds in the short time that Anora stays with him that he develops an unexpected fondness for her.  He’s protective and puts this down to the abusive home that she has left.

Yet in time, he realises it’s more than that.  Even when her husband brings a devastating blow to Maverick’s plan to build up good horse stock with his stallion. Just when Maverick is ready to admit his feelings for the young woman, Anora is gone from his life.

Fast forward a year and readers get to explore with Anora and Maverick.  The two consider if the feelings they once felt are still there.  And if so, whether they should act on them.  Love Before Midnight was a short, enjoyable read with a small focus on horses that was appreciated.
