It’s been on my mind for awhile to share about Thoroughbred Breeders Australia’s ‘TBA Learning’ site. Back in October 2023, I completed their online biosecurity course and was awarded with a Certificate of Completion. These skills are self-paced and you can choose to learn about a single topic, or complete a short course.
As it states on their site,
TBA Learning courses are for people who are in the industry, people who want to join the industry and anyone who wants to learn the basic skills and knowledge required to breed and raise happy, healthy and fast horses.”
Remember my post at the start of this year about microskills? Well I believe that TBA Learning’s online short courses are a perfect example of this. You can build on your knowledge, gain a certificate and add to your resume!
You can take your pick of courses or modules that focus on:
- horse foundation
- horse health
- horse handling
- and biosecurity.
Utilising a half hour to an hour of your time, reading and reviewing short video segments, you can take a quiz at the end to show your comprehension of the topic. You’ll need to achieve 100% to complete the course and gain your certificate.
But once you do, well you’ll have an electronic certificate to show off and some new found knowledge – or confirmed knowledge – in the way that Australians do certain aspects of horse care and handling!

Why not set yourself the goal of achieving one of these certificates over the next month? And whilst you’re at it, check out Thoroughbred Breeders Australia and what they have to offer.
I still believe that the Thoroughbred industry is ripe with so many opportunities. Whether you’re in Australia or over in the Northern Hemisphere, you can make connections and pick up work on a leading Thoroughbred stud! Many of the properties in Victoria and NSW often have workers from Ireland, England and France.
Find a contact at TBA and ask them if they may be able to put you in touch with such a contact. Letting them know you’ve completed one of their courses and gained you certificate could be a great conversation starter!
