Free Equine Resource

December 7, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Hi everyone! Sometimes the easiest way to get the word out about a product or service is to provide one for free. In this way, people are able to get a feel for the product from a particular individual/business and decide if they would be interested in purchasing anything further.

Christine Meunier’s Points of the Horse Activity

So in light of this, I have another free equine resource on offer to:

  • educators
  • students (we’re all students when it comes to horses: you can’t stop learning)
  • someone who is happy to give me feedback on a free product

If you head along to this activity at TeachersPayTeachers.com and download it, give it a go!

This particular resource focuses on the genetics of colour in horses. There are some simple scenarios using common coat colours of horses, and a little worksheet to be able to determine the likelihood that when two horses are bred, the foal will be bay, or chestnut or another colour. Why not take a look?
While you’re at it, if you love to test yourself on points of the horse and haven’t yet seen this free resource, take a look at this one too!

And if you are an educator with resources that you feel others could benefit from or are interested in making use of already created resources and activities, why not consider signing up to TeachersPayTeachers?  It’s free!

Retired Racehorse Home a Fixture

December 3, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Many people may not consider where horses go after their racing career.  Still others may assume, or guess.  I love the fact that some horses go on to breeding careers (generally if they’ve performed well on the track) or may be purchased by a keen equestrian who turns them to one day eventing.

Many Race Horses Have an After Racing Career

It is now mandatory in Australia for owners to register where their race horses are to be retired.  For the entrepreneur, perhaps an establishment that promotes their property as one that provides for the race horse after retirement, it may be possible to generate a client base and a name for what they do quickly.

Of course, an idea of what will be done with the horses after they’ve finished racing is necessary to be able to promote the idea.  Would you:

  • focus on retraining for another discipline (eventing, dressage, show jumping)
  • provide land for the horses to be paddock companions as they age
  • utilise the horses for educational classes that people can visit
  • promote the thoroughbred breed and show off once famous race horses, as in the likes of Living Legends

I’d be willing to wager that some careers that relate to horses haven’t yet been thought of.  If a new idea persists, consider the idea of being the person that introduces it to potential customers.

Passive Income for Educators?

November 28, 2013 by Christine Meunier

Points of the Horse Activity
Points of the Horse Activity.

Well I love to teach about horses.  This may be visible through my novel Horse Country, or the articles that I’ve written at Suite101.com.

I’ve recently been shown the site TeachersPayTeachers.  This is an online place for educators to create, upload and provide resources to other teachers for free, or for a fee.

I love the idea of this: you can create a great resource, then other educators can download it to use with their students if the content is appropriate to what they’re teaching.

If you would like to test your knowledge on the points of the horse, why not take a look at a free resource that I’ve created for horse enthusiasts?  If you’re an educator who has actitives that you think others can benefit from giving to their students, why not consider signing up at TeachersPayTeachers?

I believe as a good educator, you can create resources that fit to your needs and share them with others but you can also benefit from resources others have made.  Why not take a look at the resources available for free and sale at my store?  They include:

  • Points of the Horse Activity
  • Vital Signs of the Horse Activity
  • Horse Riding Games for Instructors

If you’re an educator of horse studies or know of someone who is or would like to improve their horse knowledge, point them toward Teachers Pay Teachers!

Australian Racing Fact Book

November 21, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Australian Racing has released a fact book for the 2012/2013 racing season.  It states on the site:

The Australian Racing Board’s objective in publishing the Fact Book is to draw together under one cover the key results and statistics for the Australian thoroughbred sector for each season

There is a link to the Fact Book on the Australian Racing website linked above, but you can head right to it if you like.  If your interest is in the Racing industry, being up to date on racing statistics will be well worth the invested time to read.  The file is a pdf so can be read on your computer or iPad or printed off – whatever suits your fancy!

Trackrider Course in Victoria

November 18, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Track riders are people who ride racehorses for their workouts in their training and leading up to a race.  They can be someone who is a qualified jockey who will ride the horse in a race, but are often people who are not qualified to ride in races.  Track riders can be larger than the typical jockey frame and enjoy riding racehorses in this way even if they aren’t able to qualify as a jockey.

Would you Like to Ride Racehorses in Track Work?

Racing Victoria is advertising a track riding course that is to be run through the National Centre for Equine Education.  If you have a passion for riding horses at speed, perhaps this form of qualification that can lead to employment is worth looking into!
