An Educational Sponsor

January 2, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Larneuk Stud Logo

Hi everyone! In honour of my theme for 2013 of education, I thought I’d introduce you all to the proud sponsor of my EquusEducation page at Facebook – Larneuk Stud!

Larneuk is a thoroughbred stud based in North East Victoria and I adore this place.

The location is gorgeous, the boss great and I got to learn so much about working with horses and gain so many skills whilst working there over the years:

  • administering medications
  • foaling down mares
  • holding mares for cover
  • holding horses for the farrier and vetting
  • handling foals
  • feeding and checking horses
  • ATV and tractor driving

The list goes on!  And now Larneuk is supporting me in another way, by sponsoring my facebook page.

So I have a challenge for you – if you like what is provided through this blog – career and travel options regarding horses – why not hope on over to Larneuk Stud’s Facebook page and like it in thanks for their support of EquusEducation?  Thanks so much!

Saved Equine Law Webinar Available Online

January 1, 2013 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Hi everyone! The Free Equine Law Webinar that was available at Alison Rowe’s Equine Law site is available to anyone that may have missed it, or wants to listen again! Due to the time difference in Australia, even though I’d signed up for this Webinar, I wasn’t able to be online when it was being aired.

However, it is available to listen to and the PowerPoint slides can also be downloaded! You can do so via this link.  Enjoy!

How you Finish Something Affects how you Start Another

December 31, 2012 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

At church on Sunday our pastor was talking about finishing well. I always love this time of year to think about what I want to achieve next year. What I don’t tend to do so often, is remember what’s been achieved in the past twelve months.

Something he said really resonated with me – how I end 2012, will affect how I start 2013. I may not have achieved all I wanted to this year, but my attitude towards finishing 2012 can affect my effectiveness on what I want to achieve in 2013.

So do you have an idea of how you’d like to finish out this year and start the next one? This may be a list of resolutions, or perhaps it’s an idea or two brimming at the surface that you’ve yet to look further into.

What do You Want Your Role to be?
What do You Want Your Role to be?

Can I encourage a theme for 2013? Education. There are so many things in life that can be learnt – facts, skills, relationships, habits, the list goes on. Make it a goal of yours to continue to educate yourself for the better.

This may just be choosing to look at life from a different approach or it may be signing up to undertake a course or learn a new skill. My great grandmother was a firm believer in, ‘the day I stop learning is the day I die.’

For me, 2012 has been an incredible year:

  • I married my beautiful fiancé
  • We now get to share life together daily
  • I started work casually at an education institution I’ve been keen to work at for the past few years
  • This has resulted in a contract for 2013
  • I got kicked in the head by a horse and ended up in an induced coma for 4 days
  • This showed me how incredible my husband is by sticking by me, looking after me and encouraging me to take things slow for the health of my head

Things I have achieved or completed in 2012 are making 2013 look like a very promising year, indeed!

Equine Finance

December 26, 2012 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

Not too long ago I posted about my new dream job, ‘equine financial planner‘. Arguably, I posted about what I thought it would entail without looking around to see if there is already such a role.

Would you Invest in Horses?

A quick search online wields a result of some businesses that are financial focused, but in the niche area of horses.

  • EquineTax.com – “Hurley & Hurley, Inc. specializes in tax return preparation and tax audits for individuals, trainers, breeders, farms, and all types of businesses in the equine or horse industry.”
  • The Equine Tax Group – “Our Team Has Over 75 years Of Experience As IRS Agents and Managers. We Are Your Answer For Solving Equine Related Tax Problems”
  • Stable Financial – “Stable Financial is a team of passionate experts committed to providing a complete and personalised range of accounting, tax and financial solutions to a group of progressive clients.”

“I used to have money, now I have horses.”

The Horse Tales Literacy Project

December 23, 2012 by Christine Meunier Leave a Comment

A lot can be learnt about horses, and a lot can be learnt from them.

For those who aren’t aware, I’ve created a page for Equus Education on Facebook, and on this page am endeavouring to ‘like’ as many pages as I can find on Facebook that can encourage others to learn about horses and education.

The Black Stallion by Walter Farley

This may be through but not limited to:

  • group pages
  • organisations
  • foundations
  • courses
  • horse personalities
  • educational institutes

One such page is the Horse Tales Literacy Project.  This project focuses on “horses inspiring children to read and succeed.”

It is said on their website, “Horse Tales Literacy Project (formerly The Black Stallion Literacy Foundation) is an innovative partnership of educators, businesses, volunteers, educational foundations, and staff members focused on promoting literacy through the winning combination of live horses and classic horse literature.”

I adore reading – particularly about horses.  And it is through reading that I came to learn about horses and pursue a career with them.

It is also through reading about horses that I came to love writing.  Horse fictional novels offer a chance for readers to dream big, experience adventure and learn.

The Horse Tales Literacy Project has come about on account of well known author, Walter Farley and his series, the Black Stallion.

The Horse Tales Literacy Project are aiming to reach 200 likes for Christmas.  Perhaps you can help by liking their page and making others aware of the organisation!  And while you’re at it – if you haven’t already – why not like Equus on Facebook?  I’m aiming for 100 likes by the new year!

“You can tell a gelding, you can ask a mare, but you must discuss it with a stallion.”
